Small business owners, senior executives and young professionals have been enjoying monthly masterclasses with Amy Hume hosted by Viva Voice.
This year, Viva Voice began offering masterclasses as a way of inviting local professionals to develop their voice and communication skills in a group setting. ‘Each masterclass has focused on a different aspect of communication or presentation’, said acclaimed voice coach Amy Hume. ‘Recently we’ve offered “Your Voice and Your Career”, “Fearless Speaking”, “Powerful Presentations”, “Speaking with Presence”, and “How to Use – Not Lose! – Your Voice”’. As a voice and dialect coach, Amy primarily works with actors, but is equally committed to delivering voice training beyond the realm of theatre. ‘Just as an actor’s voice is their primary tool, so is the voice a professional's primary communication tool – in the boardroom, the seminar room, the classroom. Your voice is what connects you to the people around you’. Local professionals seem to agree that it is an important part of professional development. ‘People from a wide range of professional backgrounds have been attending the masterclasses – university professors, health professionals, solicitors, journalists, teachers – and all find the material beneficial. Most attend every month.’ Francesca, a small business owner, has attended a number of the masterclasses. ‘I find them empowering, relevant, useful and enjoyable. I’d recommend them to anyone interested in developing their voice or wanting to gain more confidence in speaking’, she says. The next masterclass is “Quick Thinking, Clear Speaking” and will focus on expressing yourself clearly and with confidence, whether in presentation, negotiation or conversation. ‘This is what you need to know in order to make a solid and sharp impression at your next networking event, business meeting, or even social engagement.’ said Amy. ‘You’ll learn to express your thoughts clearly so people hear you with confidence and trust.’ Next masterclass: Clear Thinking, Quick Speaking Wed 7 October 2015, 6.30-8.30pm at Viva Voice Register here or phone (02) 8040 1902 |
